A quantum leap is a sudden and discrete change in the state of a quantum system, most famously describing how an electron jumps between energy levels in an atom without passing through the space in between. In physics, this shift happens almost instantaneously and is often accompanied by the absorption or emission of a photon. Beyond science, the term is also used metaphorically to mean a dramatic or transformative advancement.
